Watching The Web Fly By

Watching The Web Fly By - Harking back to a simpler ageIn this world of Ajax, Ruby On Rails, Web 2.0 and information overload, once in a while a simple idea captures the imagination of the viewing public and set's a trend. The Million Dollar Homepage was one such phenomena that we have mentioned here a few times. It spawned an army of copyists who missed the fact that it had a USP, just copying it wasn't enough. As a result we got some interesting takes on it, a couple of which have featured here, and a whole boat load that just ended up, well, making you wince when you looked at them.

Watching The Web Fly By is yet another take on the model of the Million Dollar Homepage. I get sent so many of these that never make it, this one just made me smile when I opened it. Basically, it's an animated version. It's simple, and to my mine, harks back to an age when every web site seemed to have a photograph with Java reflections below it, or big flashing GIFs plastered all over the place. It simply made me smile on a jaded Friday afternoon - that simple. I think I mouthed the words, Bravo! To be honest, I don't recall having seen an animated Million Dollar knock-off. And as such, I think this one will get sent around a fair bit which is why I've mentioned it.

Yes, there really are a lot of these pixel like sites. Here's one for eBay. It allows eBay users to get an eBay pixel ad to promote their eBay auctions. I've used it, and have had great success with it.
