Please Note: This page is now part of The Next Big Web Thing v1 archive - none of the stuff on this page is relevent any more as the nominations competition is now finished - it's here for posterity's sake - the winners of these votes have earned a permanent page.

Here we have it, the list of past winners of The Next Big Web Thing Monthly Vote. Retrospect is a great thing and we hope this list will fill with names that will stamp their footprints large across the web in future years and entertain us all.

if you'd like to feature on this list at some point, or have something you're passionate about in there, then you need to participate. Nominate and spread the word!

As with anything open to public vote and participation, all these results reflect the opinions of our voters and don't necessarily guarantee that anyone chosen will be an actual Big Web Thing. It's a fun gauge and nothing else.

The Next Big Web Thing Monthly Winners For 2006

May 2006

1st Place: A Swarm Of Angels

2nd Place: PlaceSite

3rd Place: Etsy

A good strong showing from the film funding site with a difference, taking the first place by a large margin. Their business model captured a lot of attention around the web, and we wish them luck with their endeavour. In second place was PlaceSite, who have the early seeds of a WiFi social network with a difference - keep an eye out for their concept. In third was the Crafty shopping site Etsy. Our users liked their colourful interface and innovative navigation and discovery methods.

April 2006

1st Place: PopURLs

2nd Place: NeoBinaries

3rd Place: Criticker

For all us link junkies, PopURL is a great way of taking a snap shot of what's hot on the web at any time. The site's winning design and usefulness gained it a massive part of the vote and the coveted 1st position. In 2nd game the community driven Web 2.0 portal, NeoBinaries, followed closely by the excellent interactive movie suggestion engine, Criticker.

March 2006

1st Place: Site Shuffle

2nd Place: Make Me Watch TV

3rd Place: Roundtuit

Site Shuffle's big red button and social bookmarking aspects obviously appealed to a wide range of voters this month as it was a clear winner. The quirky sponsorship blog which allows you too choose the TV that Aric will watch came in at second place (a second second for Aric), slightly piping the idea sharing blog Roundtuit into the runners up position.

February 2006

1st Place: Videosift

2nd Place: Stuff And Me

3rd Place: Ninja And Zombie

Videosift's excellent Digg like appeal for videos saw it take the lead with Stuff and Me coming a very close second. It's quirky idea no doubt appealed to many of you out there. Pulling up in third place the charming Ninja And Zombie comedy cheered enough people to help it get the votes to put it into the third leading spot.

Postscript. I'd have loved to have carried on these votes over the year - it's interesting to see how some of the sites have taken off since we nominated them.
